Explore by walking or driving around town and take pictures of columns of buildings or houses in an effort to identify the different Classical Greek Orders used today in your community. Document at least 4 different locations.  Take pictures from the sidewalk or street only (public property). Do not go onto the yards. Make sure to identify the order correctly by comparing it to the images in chapter 5. Identify each picture with the name of the order and a general location (like a street name) of the building or house. All towns and cities have the Classical Greek Orders, besides houses, look at government buildings, older schools, churches and banks. Remember, classical columns are ROUND, not square.
Reflection Questions:
What is your opinion about the use of the Classical Greek Orders in today’s architecture?
Was it difficult was it to find the Classical Greek Orders in your town? Why or why not?
Would you consider the use of the Classical Greek Orders in your future home? Why or why not?
NOTICE: The Classical Greek Orders refer to the three columns on the left, below. The Doric Order, The Ionic Order and the Corinthian Order. The other three columns are the Roman versions.
